Brandon Cronenberg’s thriller Possessor and Titus Heckel’s drama Chained received six nominations apiece in the Canadian section of the Vancouver Film Critics Circle Awards.

Possessor is in the running for Best Picture, Director, Screenplay, Leading Actress (Andrea Riseborough), Supporting Actor (Christopher Abbott) and Supporting Actress (Jennifer Jason-Leigh). Chained received mentions in the Best Screenplay category, Leading Actor (Marlon Kazadi), Best BC Film, One to Watch (Titus Heckel) and two nominations in the Best Supporting Actor category (Adrian Holmes and Alexis Paunovic).

The Nest with four nominations, Violation and Brother, I Cry with three will also vie for the awards.

In the Best British Columbia Film category, the nominees are the aforementioned Chained, Brother, I Cry and the documentary The New Corporation.

In the One to Watch category, the nominees are the writer/director of Brother, I Cry, Jessie Anthony, the young lead of Beans, Kiawentiio, and another writer/director, Titus Heckel for Chained.

The winners of the VFCC Canadian awards will be announced at a virtual awards ceremony on Monday, March 8th.
